Individual Services Offered |
Phonemic awareness and letter/sound knowledge are essential skills in learning to read and spell. This game focused program incorporates a multisensory approach to solidify a student’s ability to identify a letter and its corresponding sound, recognize and produce rhymes, segment words into individual sounds and blend sounds to make words. |
Pre-reading |
This program provides direct instruction to explain the reading code. It incorporates a systematic, multisensory approach to teach letter/sound correspondences, introduce decoding skills and build a sight word vocabulary. It specifically teaches the behaviors of successful readers, such as using background knowledge, picture clues, prediction, and syntax to enhance comprehension. |
Early Literacy Skills |
This program is for the student who understands how reading works but lacks fluency when reading aloud. He expends a lot of energy decoding words and often misses details in the story. Emphasis is on solidifying previously learned decoding skills, learning about prefixes, suffixes and syllabication rules as well as understanding how intonation and expression impact comprehension. |
Gaining Fluency & Improving Comprehension |
Picture It is for the student whose decoding skills are intact but has little recall of the story’s events, has difficulty predicting future events or inferring why an event happened. Comprehension of text is increased when there is a visualization of the events in the text and when the reader self-monitors her understanding what is being read. She constantly asks herself, “Does this make sense? Do I know what is going on?” This process is called metacognition. We will teach her to visualize events and to do comprehension checks throughout the story to increase her comprehension and enjoyment of reading. |

Spelling |
The English language is comprised of many complex spelling rules, many of which are broken at the drop of a hat. The Learning Resource Center’s spelling program emphasizes learning non-phonetic common words such as “what” and “people” as well as common spelling patterns for vowels –“a-e”, “ai”, “ay”, and “eigh” for long “a”. This program will improve the student’s phonemic awareness and offers multisensory, direct instruction of common spelling rules such as what to do when adding suffixes to root words ending with “e”. |
The Study Skills program is for the student who is frequently disorganized, loses, can’t find or doesn’t turn in completed assignments. He needs to learn how to study for a test and create a schedule to complete school projects. We will work with each student to develop a plan to increase his executive function skills and make his home and school life more organized, manageable and pleasant. |

Attention & Focusing Skills |
We are certified providers of Interactive Metronome® Therapy (IM). IM provides a structured, goal-oriented process that challenges the client to synchronize a range of hand and foot exercises to a precise computer-generated reference tone heard through headphones. The client attempts to match the rhythmic beat with repetitive motor actions. Over the course of the treatment, clients learn to: · Focus and attend for longer periods of time · Increase physical endurance and stamina · Filter out internal and external distractions · Improve ability to monitor mental and physical actions as they are occurring · Progressively improve coordinated performance. |
